Ever since the Aadhaar card was rolled out in January 2008, it has been in the spotlight. When it was first introduced, most people did not know why it was introduced. However, as time went on we got to know that we were required to link our Aadhaar card to everything from gas connection, bank accounts, rental agreements etc. Sometimes the linking required was easy and sometimes confusing with online systems not working properly, for example.
Recently, a petition was filed at the Supreme court to extend the deadline, which was set to December 31st, 2017. The Supreme court granted the extension to link Aadhaar card to all related schemes, such as insurance policies, for example. The new extended deadline is till March, 31st 2018. However, it is advisable to finish linking your Aadhaar card to your relevant schemes as soon as possible instead of leaving it to the end of the deadline and avoid a system overload.
