TDS Reconciliation Analysis and Correction Enabling System (TRACES) allows the TDS Deductors or Collectors to view challan statuses on the Income tax portal. It is a web based application launched by the Income Tax Department(ITD) for viewing of challan and downloading of Form 16/16A, Form 26AS. Deductors, Tax Payers and Payment Accounts Office (PAO) can register themselves on TRACES. This guide will explain the process of viewing your challan status on Traces.
Traces helps the TDS/TCS Deductor or collector to check the status and to verify the PAN of the taxpayer linked to the collector of taxes. The same can be done by the TDS/TCS collector by creating his/her login ID and Password on the portal. The tax payers can also download Form 26AS to view the credit available to them against their PAN for the tax deducted at source.
Challan is the form that is required to be filed for making income tax payments and TRACES is used to view the status of the same. The different types of challans are:
|ITNS 280||Making payment towards Advance Tax, Self-Assessment Tax and Tax on Regular Assessment|
|ITNS 281||Making payment of Tax Deducted at Source (TDS) / Tax Collected at Source (TCS)|
