Viewing Challan Status on TRACES

TDS Reconciliation Analysis and Correction Enabling System (TRACES) allows the TDS Deductors or Collectors to view challan statuses on the Income tax portal. It is a web based application launched by the Income Tax Department(ITD) for viewing of challan and downloading of Form 16/16A, Form 26AS. Deductors, Tax Payers and Payment Accounts Office (PAO) can register themselves on TRACES.  This guide will explain the process of viewing your challan status on Traces.

What is TRACES?

Traces  helps the TDS/TCS Deductor or collector to check the status and to verify the PAN of the taxpayer linked to the collector of taxes. The same can be done by the TDS/TCS collector by creating his/her login ID and Password on the portal. The tax payers can also download Form 26AS to view the credit available to them against their PAN for the tax deducted at source.

What is Challan?

Challan is the form that is required to be filed for making income tax payments and TRACES is used to view the status of the same. The different types of challans are:

The steps for the viewing challan status is mentioned below.

Steps to View Challan Status

Step 1:  Log on to the
Step 2:  Deductors/Collectors, Tax Payer and PAO need to Register on TRACES.


Step 3:  Depending on what you choose in Step 2, you will be directed on the page where you need to fill the required details, and click on Proceed.

Step 4:  on successful login, click on Statements/Payments tab and you can see the challan status details. One can use help section to get clarity on the same.

Step 5:  From the drop down, click on Challan Status.

Step 6: Challan status can be viewed using Challan Identification Number (CIN) or using Books Identification Number (BIN) . Choose CIN/BIN and then select Period of Payment option and click on GO .
