5 Ways to Check EPF Balance

Check EPF Balance Online and Offline Methods

PF balance check can be done through any of these following methods:

  1. By UAN Number
  2. By sending SMS
  3. By giving a missed call
  4. Using EPFO web portal
  5. Using EPFO Android app – UMANG

Side Note: Ensure that your Employer activates your UAN number before you check your PF balance.

Method 1: PF Balance Check with UAN Number

Follow the steps given below:

  • Step 1: Go to the EPFO website (1). Select the “Our Services” tab and click on the “For Employees” option.

  • Step 2: Click on the “Member Passbook” option under the “Services” column.

  • Step 3: Enter your “User Name” which is your UAN number along with the “Password” and click on the “Login” button.

  • Step 4: You can select the “MEMBER ID” to view or download the UAN member passbook and check your EPF balance.

Method 2: Check EPF Balance By SMS

  • Step 1: Type <EPFOHO> SPACE <your UAN number> SPACE <first three letters of your preferred language>
    The EPFO provides this SMS facility in 10 languages namely English, Hindi, Telugu, Punjabi, Gujarati, Malayalam, Marathi, Tamil, Kannada, and Bengali.
    e.g.,: ENG for English, MAR for Marathi, HIN for Hindi language.
  • Step 2: Send the SMS from your registered mobile number to 7738299899.

After sending the message, you will receive an SMS back from the EPFO containing your EPF balance along with your PF number, name, date of birth and last contribution amount.

Method 3: By Giving a Missed Call

Give a missed call on 011 22 901 406 from your registered mobile number to know your current EPF balance. Once done, you will receive an SMS with your PF details.

Method 4: EPF Balance Enquiry using EPFO Portal

The Unified Mobile App for New Governance (UMANG) allows you to access your PF account details and make withdrawal requests.

For making withdrawal requests, your Aadhaar number and UAN need to be linked. However, to view your passbook, Aadhaar is not necessary.

  • Step 1: Go to the UMANG web portal (3) and click on the “User Login” link on the top right corner of the page.
  • Step 2: Enter your “Mobile Number” along with “MPIN” if you are a registered user; if not, click on the “NEW USER” button to register yourself.

  • Step 3: Enter your “mobile number” and tick the small box to agree to the terms and conditions. Click on the “NEXT” button.

  • Step 4: Enter the “OTP” received on your mobile number and click on the “NEXT” button.

  • Step 5: Enter the “MPIN” as per your choice and re-enter it to confirm the same. Click on the “NEXT” button.

  • Step 6: Enter your “Profile Information” and click on the “SAVE & CONTINUE” button.
    You will get a confirmation email with the “verification link”. Click on the aforesaid link to validate and complete the registration process.

  • Step 7: Click on the “EPFO” option to proceed further.

  • Step 8: Click on the “General Services” button.

  • Step 9: Select either “Account details on SMS” or the “Account details on Missed Calls” as per your convenience to get the PF balance information.

Method 5: EPF Balance Check on Mobile App (UMANG)

Follow the steps given below to register and login to your account and check the PF balance:

  • Step 1: Install the “m-seva” app from the Google Play Store
  • Step 2: Open the app, click on the “Member” button and select the “Balance/passbook” option.
  • Step 3: Enter your UAN and registered mobile number to view your Provident Fund balance.

SIDE NOTE: Only android users can use the UMANG mobile app whereas everyone can use the UMANG web app.

Important Point to Remember

Track your EPF savings using one of the above ways and make necessary changes for achieving your goals. Kindly note that EPF/VPF contributes to you 80C deduction. Use the same to optimize your deductions.
