The details captured on the Aadhaar card of every resident are recorded in the UIDAI system. However, only certain details are mentioned on the card, whereas the other details are saved in the Aadhaar’s database like finger prints, retinal scan, etc., that can be accessed only through certain channels. All these details can be updated through various methods.

Aadhaar card enables every citizen of India to have a proper identity proof and it comes with lot of benefits like Residence Proof, Identity Card, Bank Account Opening, Income Tax services, availing subsidies under Government Schemes, pension benefits etc.

Aadhaar Card Update Online

Here are the steps to be followed to update the Aadhaar card details online.

  • Login to the UIDAI official website (1)
  • Enter your valid Aadhaar Card number along with the Text Verification. Click on “Send OTP” option. Enter the OTP with the Captcha code and click on “Submit” option.

  • It will get directed to a new page which is “Data Request Page”. Now select the field where the changes must be done.

  • Scan and upload the proof of the changed details that has been updated.
  • Fill up the details and double check on the accuracy of the information as it will get reflected in the new Aadhaar card.

Updating Aadhaar Details via Post

You can also update the Aadhaar Card details through Post and follow the below steps to complete the process.

  • Download the Aadhaar Data Correction/Update Form (1)
  • Fill the required details which you wish to change in your Aadhaar card.
  • You will have to submit the photocopies of the documents that validate the changes requested to be made in the form.
  • Send the form along with documents to the postal address as mentioned below:

Aadhaar Card Update via Enrolment Centre

Aadhaar Enrolment centres are those entities who enrol the residents for Aadhaar after taking their biometric and demographic details following the UIDAI enrolment process. There are certain enrolment agencies that work with Registrars who operate these Aadhaar Enrolment Centres. These agencies ensure uninterrupted streamlining of information to the UIDAI database.

The main purpose of Aadhaar Enrolment Centre is the new applicant’s enrolment, assistance to existing Aadhaar card holders in updating their details etc. All the services are free for the first time and a nominal fee is applicable later for certain services as per the prescribed rates of UIDAI.

Residents having Aadhaar card can update their details visiting the nearest Enrolment Centre by following the steps below:

  • Aadhaar Correction form has to be filled by the applicant
  • Ensure to mention the correct details in the form
  • Provide self-attested proofs to support the changes as per your request
  • Submit the form and the relevant document proofs to the Executive
  • Enrolment Centres charge Rs. 25/- for every such visit towards the correction of details like biometric data, mobile numbers, photo etc.

Children who are of 5 years should visit Aadhaar enrolment centre to submit their biometric data. After they reach 15 years of age, they should visit an enrolment centre again to submit their biometric data. This biometric data is considered as the final one which remains with your Aadhaar for lifetime.

How to Check Aadhaar Update Status?

After you have submitted the update request for Aadhaar, you can go on and track the status of your update request to see if it has been accepted, in process or declined. For checking the status, you must have the acknowledgement slip received after successful submission of the update request. The Update Request Number or URN is used to track the update status.

Online Procedure

If you have requested for Aadhaar update through the website, you can check the Aadhaar status online follow the steps below:

  • Visit the UIDAI (official Aadhaar) website (1)
  • You will find the ‘Aadhaar Update’ tab and click on ‘Check Status – Update done Online’

  • Visit the UIDAI (official Aadhaar) website

Offline Process

You can track the status of your Aadhaar update request by visiting the same enrollment centre you had visited for applying for an update. Tell the person-in-charge that you wish to know the status. He will enter the information in the system and let you know about the status.

Checking through Phone

You can alternatively call hotline number by dialing 1947. Provide the URN and other details to the operator, and then he will provide the status of your request.

How to update address in Aadhaar Card?

If you are opting online Self-Service Update Portal for correction of Aadhaar details, you can update your Demographic details (Address). Please ensure that your mobile number is registered in Aadhaar while using this service.

  • Login to UIDAI Website (1)
  • Enter Aadhaar Number and click on “Send OTP”.
  • Enter the OTP to proceed and select the “Address Option”
  • Enter the address details to CONFIRM the same and select Proof of Address
  • Select the option for authentication after which the request is submitted and a Update Request Number will be generated.

How to update photo in Aadhaar Card?

The photo displayed on your aadhaar card can be changed in one of two ways:

  • Send your request to the regional UIDAI office – Download the aadhaar update/correction form and fill in the details. Attach a formal letter requesting a change to the photo displayed in your card.  Attach the new self-attested photo with the form and a copy of your aadhaar card and post it to your regional office, which will respond in 15-20 days with your new aadhaar card.
  • Visit your nearest UIDAI office – Visit the nearest aadhaar office and request the officer to re-do your biometrics, which carries a nominal fee.  Your new card will be mailed to you in 15-20 days.

How to Change Date of Birth in Aadhaar Card?

You can change your date of birth in your Aadhaar card only through post or enrolment centre.

By Post

  • Download the form(link to pdf) and fill out all the required details
  • Attach self-attested copies of all the relevant documents, mentioning your aadhaar number and registered mobile number.
  • Send the form and documents to your regional office. Your new card will be dispatched in 15-20 days.

Via Enrolment Centre

Visit the nearest enrolment centre and submit the completed form with all the relevant documents.  You will be given an URN, which you can use to track the status of your update request.

Important Points to Remember While Updating Aadhaar Details

Keeping the importance of Aadhaar Card in view, we need to ensure that all the details are accurate and genuine both at the time of applying for Aadhaar Card as well as the Correction of details. Incorrect declaration might lead to rejection of the application and you are forced to do the process again to submit the correct details.

  • Declare correct details like Name, Date of Birth, Address etc in the specified field of the application form
  • You can opt to fill the details in local language or in English (mention numbers in English).
  • The supporting documents has to be provided as per the requirement to support the information that is requested to be changed by the applicant
  • Ensure the URN number is available for future reference to check the status
  • Please don’t skip the mandatory fields in the application
  • The updated Aadhaar will be delivered at the address mentioned in the application

Reasons Why Correction/updating of Details Gets Rejected

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has certain procedures to validate the changes requested by the applicants. After all these criteria are satisfied, UIDAI will update or change the details on their system. Not all the changes will get the approval and may get rejected at times as per the scenario.
