How to Download Aadhaar Card Online?

Once the aadhaar enrolment process is complete, individuals can download the e-Aadhaar Card from the UIDAI website and print it for further use. e-Aadhaar can be downloaded through 4 different ways as below:

  1. Download using Aadhaar Number
  2. Download using Name and Date of Birth
  3. Download using Enrolment ID
  4. Download using Virtual ID (VID)

  • Visit the UIDAI website (1)
  • Locate Aadhaar Online Services > Aadhaar Enrolment > Select Download Aadhaar option

Once you download your e-Aadhaar, you will get it in the form of a pdf file which is password protected. The password to open e-Aadhaar letter pdf consists of 8 characters. It’s a combination of first 4 letters of your name (as in Aadhaar) in capital letters and year of birth in YYYY format.

Before you can download Aadhaar card online, you need to apply for one. The UIDAI provides a proper platform for validation of the resident’s identity for the authorities to electronically verify and issue Aadhaar Cards to the individuals.  These are the steps to apply for a Aadhaar Card:

  • An Indian resident can approach the Aadhaar Centres or Banks/ Post-offices for enrolment or updating of Aadhaar Card details by booking an appointment at the enrolment centre.

The UIDAI has introduced a new security feature in e-Aadhaar. This new feature allows the taxpayers to download e-Aadhaar in which the first 8 digits will be hidden. A. Since VID is temporary and can be changed by the Aadhaar number holder, storing VID has no value. Agencies should not store VID in any database or logs.

Q. If I request re-generation of VID, will I get the same VID or a different one?

A. After the minimum validity period (currently set as 1 day), if you request for the regeneration of VID, a new one will be generated and the previous ID will be deactivated. If you opt for retrieval of VID, the last active VID will be sent to you.

Q. What is the expiry period of my VID?

A. At this time, there is no expiry period defined for VID. VID will be valid till the time a new VID is generated by you.
