Finally, GST has been rolled in and that it is expected to replace all in-direct taxes in India and create a smooth national market. The individuals or businesses with a turnover of more than 20 lakhs (10 lakhs for J&K, Himachal Pradesh, Northern-Eastern States and Uttarakhand) are required to complete the registration process. What is ARN?

ARN is an acronym of Application Reference Number which is allotted when an individual submits the enrollment form on the GST common portal, which is a platform created by the government to assist in all GST transactions. An individual has to enroll with digital signature. After registering /submitting the application for GST, the unique ARN is generated. It is used to track the registration status of GST. It can also be used for all transactions under GST.

Documents Required for Application Reference Number

You will have to keep these basic set of documents handy while applying for the ARN, which is outlined below:

  • Directors or partners list along with their identification and address proof. It is necessary to mention the constitution of business entity
  • Memorandum of Association (MOA)/ Articles of Association (AOA), Certificate of Incorporation, partnership deed
  • PAN Card of Business Organization
  • Canceled cheque from bank account, which mentions account holder name, IFSC code, MICR and branch details of bank
  • Rent agreement or electricity bill as a feature and document of area of business

How to Check Registration Status by ARN?

When the registration application is filled and submitted, an Application Reference Number (ARN) is generated. Here are the steps to track the GST registration status.

2. Click on Services > Registration > Track Application Status

Status Meanings

  1. Pending for verification- application procedures have been completed and forwarded for verification.
  2. Validation Against Error- there is a mismatch in the details submitted by you at the time of making an application and the details as per the Income Tax Department. The mismatch could be with first name, last name, PAN, etc. You are then required to re-check match the details with those on the government website.
  3. Provisional- your application is not still filed. You are required to fill in the details correctly and submit. However, the provisional ID has been issued to you.
  4. Canceled- This status means that the department has canceled your registration request due to incorrect information.
  5. Migrated- This status means that the application has been successfully shifted under GST.
